Founding Engineer (future CTO)
Hybrid London: 3 x days per week in office, Shoreditch
Up to £140k + strong equity
2-person company, £2.5M raised
About the Company
We're working with a very early-stage startup building the trust and risk layer for agentic commerce.
As AI agents become capable of searching, selecting and purchasing products autonomously, a new problem emerges: how do you know an agent will actually make the right purchase for the person?
The company is building technology to assess this "alignment risk", combining ML, LLMs and risk modelling with payment infrastructure to make autonomous transactions safer and more trustworthy.
The Role
You'll work directly with the Founders to build the product end-to-end, from architecture and early prototypes through to production.
You'll have significant influence over the technical direction, with the opportunity to make decisions around the stack, architecture, and engineering approach.

The initial focus will be on building the backend of the agentic commerce infrastructure, risk engine and payment flows.
You'll also work across ML and end-user UX, so this suits someone who is comfortable operating beyond a traditional backend remit.

What We're Looking For
Engineers who have already demonstrated they can operate successfully in a 0-1 environment.
Someone with strong software engineering fundamentals who enjoys making decisions with incomplete information.
Ideally someone who has worked in a technically demanding startup / scale-up environment.

Fintech / payments experience would be highly useful, as would experience working closely with ML teams.
You'll Have
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong backend engineering skills with full-stack capability
- Experience shipping production software end-to-end
- Experience building something from 0-1, ideally within an entrepreneurial environment
- Experience working with ML / AI systems or infrastructure
- Strong product instincts and an understanding of the customer problem, not just the technical solution
- Demonstrable leadership experience or strong leadership potential
- High agency and low ego
The ideal profile is someone who has spent time somewhere technically tough, has built things from scratch, and is now looking for considerably more ownership.
Early career experience in banking / fintech would be a bonus.
