We’re partnering with an exceptionally well-funded early-stage HealthTech company building core infrastructure to make complex healthcare billing and coverage decisions more reliable, transparent and deterministic.
The business is working with major organisations in the healthcare ecosystem and tackling a very large, technically challenging market. With a small founding team and significant capital behind the company, this is an opportunity to join at the ground floor and have substantial influence over the architecture, engineering culture and product.
The Role
As a Founding Engineer, you’ll work across backend systems, data infrastructure and applied AI. This is a highly hands-on position suited to an engineer who enjoys difficult technical problems, significant ownership and building products from first principles.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Building large-scale data pipelines that transform complex healthcare and policy documentation into structured, machine-readable rules using LLM-assisted extraction.
- Designing and scaling APIs and emerging agent/tooling interfaces that serve computable healthcare rules with very low latency.
- Translating complex clinical and coverage criteria into structured queries and formal logic that can be evaluated against patient data.
- Taking end-to-end ownership of new products and technical initiatives, from identifying opportunities through architecture, implementation and production deployment.
- Improving the reliability and performance of production systems as data and request volumes grow.
- Experimenting with AI-assisted development, agents and new engineering tooling within a small, highly autonomous team.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for:
- 2–6 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily across backend, full-stack or data-intensive systems.
- Strong Python development experience.
- Experience designing, building and operating production systems at meaningful scale.
- Evidence of building products or systems from 0→1 rather than solely maintaining established platforms.
- Strong understanding of API and backend architecture.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where engineers have significant autonomy and responsibility.
- Able to work from the company’s London office five days per week.
- Existing UK right to work or a transferable immigration status; the company cannot provide new visa sponsorship for this position.
Particularly relevant experience could include:
- Performance-sensitive or low-latency engineering.
- Distributed systems or high-volume data infrastructure.
- Previous experience with Rust, C or C++ alongside Python.
- Building developer platforms, APIs or interfaces for AI/agent systems.
- Healthcare technology or working with complex regulated datasets.
- Experience within quantitative trading, leading technology businesses or technically demanding venture-backed startups.

Engineering Profile
We’re particularly interested in engineers who have worked in environments where technical standards are exceptionally high and individual engineers are expected to own meaningful systems.
You could currently be a Backend Engineer, Software Engineer, Full-Stack Engineer or early-stage/founding engineer. Previous startup experience is valuable, but engineers coming from larger technology or quantitative organisations are also relevant where they can demonstrate genuine product ownership and hands-on delivery.
This is unlikely to suit someone looking for a dedicated machine-learning research position or a predominantly managerial/consulting role. The position is fundamentally hands-on software engineering.
Why Join?
You’ll be joining a very small team at an unusually early point, with substantial funding already secured and commercial validation underway. You’ll have the opportunity to shape foundational technology rather than inherit a mature stack, while working on technically difficult problems spanning data infrastructure, backend engineering, healthcare interoperability and applied AI.
For an engineer who wants the ownership of an early-stage company without compromising on technical ambition or resources, this is a particularly interesting opportunity.
