Founding Head of Conveyancing (Head of Legal Practice)
Redway Capital | Milton Keynes / flexible | c.£85k plus equity
The short version
We are acquiring an established, regulated conveyancing practice and rebuilding it around operational excellence, technology, client experience and team culture, rather than traditional law firm hierarchy. We are looking for the senior conveyancer who will lead it, own the legal quality, and hold the Head of Legal Practice role.
Background
Redway Capital is founder funded. Dan previously built and sold a professional services business to a Goldman Sachs backed acquirer after eight years. He is funding this himself, is not raising external money, and is not taking a salary from it.
We have been in live acquisition negotiations with regulated conveyancing practices since earlier this year, and have completed full financial due diligence on more than one.
The vision
Today most conveyancing is done by high street law firms as an afterthought. It is characterised by frustrated, impatient clients and professionals burnt out by high caseloads and repetitive work. It doesn't have to be that way. We want to design a firm around operational excellence, technology, customer experience and team culture, not partnership hierarchy and the way it has always been done.
We believe conveyancing can be delivered more efficiently, more predictably, and with a far better client and staff experience than most firms currently provide. We are looking for someone excited by the opportunity to help prove that.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The role
As Founding Head of Conveyancing, you will:
- Act as Head of Legal Practice for the regulated entity, or work towards approval for that role
- Own residential conveyancing quality and supervision
- Design how work actually flows through the business, and where technology and automation replace repetitive work
- Recruit, develop and lead the conveyancing team, and set the culture while it is still small enough to set
- Work directly with the founder on acquisition, integration and regulatory setup
- Contribute to the strategic direction and long term growth of the group
Early on you will carry files as well as design the business. You will not inherit a working machine and manage it. If you want a finished firm, this isn't it. If you have spent years thinking "I would run this completely differently", it is.
The regulatory piece
Holding HoLP is a real personal responsibility. In return you get genuine authority over how the practice is run, an unobstructed reporting line to the regulator, full PII cover, and a founder with no interest in overriding your professional judgement.
If you are already approved as a HoLP, COLP or equivalent, that matters a great deal to us. If you are not but are eligible, we will fund the training and support the application.
About you
You may already be leading a team, or you may be an experienced conveyancer who feels constrained by traditional firms and wants more influence over how a business is run. You are likely to be:

- A qualified solicitor or licensed conveyancer with strong residential conveyancing experience
- Eligible, or close to eligible, for approval as HoLP or COLP
- Commercially aware and genuinely interested in the operational side of legal services
- Comfortable with change, ambiguity, and building things from scratch
- Frustrated by inefficient processes and poor client communication in the current market
- Motivated by the opportunity to help create something materially better
- Experienced at recruiting and managing a team, or ready to be
Prior senior leadership experience is helpful but not essential. An entrepreneurial mindset matters more than corporate polish.
Compensation
We are looking for a long term partner, not simply an employee.
- Base benchmarked at £95k, with room to go higher for the right person
- Meaningful equity of up to 25%, with the exact instrument open to discussion
- Profit share once the practice is trading profitably
- We will also consider part time or reduced hours during the setup and regulatory approval period, moving to full time on completion.
