Founding Machine Learning Engineer (Optimization Engineer) | Early-Stage AI Start-Up

A Founding Machine Learning Engineer is required to join an ambitious early-stage AI start-up in London, building intelligent systems to solve complex real-world operational problems.

You’ll be one of the first technical hires, taking significant ownership of the company’s core ML and optimisation technology. You’ll work across machine learning, optimisation, algorithms and software engineering, taking ideas from research and experimentation through to production and seeing your work deployed into real operational environments.

You are:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in machine learning, applied optimisation, operations research or a closely related field
  • Strong in Python with solid software engineering fundamentals
  • Experienced working with machine learning, optimisation or algorithmic systems
  • Comfortable solving complex problems where there isn't an obvious or predefined solution
  • Experienced taking technical or ML systems beyond research and into production
  • Highly autonomous and motivated by working in an early-stage environment
  • Excited by the opportunity to help shape both the technology and technical direction of a growing company

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
