Founding Engineer | <10 Employee AI Start-up | London (onsite) | Up to £160k+ meaningful equity
Most AI teams are running their agents on huge, expensive frontier models. For most agent tasks, they don't need to.
I'm working with a London-based, VC-backed AI start-up building the platform that lets AI teams train their own specialised models from their real production data. The result is models that are faster, cheaper and just as sharp on the tasks that matter, and customers own the weights outright.
They're looking for a Founding Engineer to help build the core of it.
What you'll do
- Build the post-training engine: fine-tuning and RL pipelines that turn raw production data into specialised models
- Design the eval systems that prove a trained model beats what a customer is running today
- Scale multi-GPU training and inference across cloud and on-prem environments
- Make big architecture calls early, ship end to end, and work directly with customers
- Help shape the engineering team and culture as it grows

What they're looking for
- Hands-on post-training experience with RL and fine-tuning on real data (GRPO, LoRA/QLoRA or similar)
- Experience building evals, or better, tooling for evaluating LLMs and agents
- Experience designing and scaling distributed training or inference pipelines (AWS/GCP)
- Someone who wants ownership and is comfortable with ambiguity
