The role
Bactrix is looking for a Founding Senior AI Engineer to help shape the core technology behind an AI-driven drug repurposing platform for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) — one of the most urgent, underfunded problems in global health.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who genuinely loves building — not maintaining, but inventing. You'll work directly with our founder and science team to push the platform's discovery engine, agent architecture, and reasoning pipeline forward, finding smart, low-cost ways to make the system more capable without needing big infrastructure or big budgets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Do
- Architect and improve our multi-agent AI pipeline (LLMs, RAG, agent orchestration) for pharmaceutical/biomedical discovery.
- Find creative, resource-efficient ways to increase model capability and accuracy without expensive infrastructure.
- Collaborate directly with our science team to ensure AI outputs are scientifically grounded and trustworthy.
- Help define technical direction and architecture as a founding-level technical voice, not just an execution hire.
What We're Looking For
- Genuine expertise in AI/ML, LLMs, and agentic systems — someone who can innovate, not just implement.
- Experience in or strong familiarity with pharma, biotech, or life sciences applications of AI.
- Comfortable operating lean — building smart, cost-efficient solutions at an early-stage startup, not enterprise-scale budgets.
- A founder mindset: ownership, initiative, and genuine belief in the mission.
