Volunteer | Remote | UK-based | 1–2 hours per week
If you're frustrated by the fashion industry's continued reliance on plastic-based clothing and the lack of transparency around its environmental and social impact, we have something you can do to contribute towards a massive change.
Planet Fashion is building a system to bring transparency, traceability and accountability to fashion — and we're looking for people who want to help build it from the ground up.
Just 1–2 hours a week can help us build the foundations of a community that can mobilise people, educate consumers and businesses, and raise the bar for the fashion industry.
You don't need previous experience. You need curiosity, initiative and the willingness to take action.
In return, you'll gain practical experience in community building, partnership development, outreach, communication and grassroots organisation — skills that can be valuable whether you're building a career in sustainability, fashion, marketing, communications, business, technology or the third sector.
What is Planet Fashion?
Planet Fashion is building a community around a simple idea:
People should have better information about the clothes they buy.
We are developing a framework for assessing and communicating information about fashion products, including materials, supply chains, environmental impacts, working conditions, chemical use, transparency and traceability.
Our aim is to help create a fashion industry where sustainability claims are supported by better information, evidence and transparency.
We are at an early stage — which means volunteers joining now have the opportunity to help shape how the community develops.
What will you do?
As a Community & Partnership Volunteer, you'll help Planet Fashion grow its network of people and organisations interested in making fashion more transparent and responsible.
Depending on your interests, activities could include:
- Finding and connecting with relevant communities, organisations and individuals
- Introducing Planet Fashion to potential community partners
- Helping grow our LinkedIn and other social communities
- Reaching out to universities, student societies and relevant groups
- Identifying potential collaborations with fashion, sustainability and technology organisations
- Inviting relevant people to join the Planet Fashion community
- Helping organise online community activities and discussions
- Sharing Planet Fashion content within relevant communities
- Keeping track of outreach and relationships
- Suggesting new ways to grow the community
- Helping turn initial conversations into longer-term partnerships

You don't need experience
This opportunity is particularly suited to people who are:
- Curious about sustainability, fashion or social impact
- Interested in community building or partnerships
- Good communicators
- Comfortable reaching out to new people
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Willing to try things and learn from the results
- Interested in developing practical experience
You do not need previous experience in community management, partnerships, marketing or sustainability. Students, recent graduates, career changers, early-career professionals and experienced professionals who want to contribute are all welcome. What matters is your interest and willingness to take action.
How much time is involved?
Just 1–2 hours per week. We understand that volunteers have studies, jobs, businesses and other commitments. The role is designed to be flexible and sustainable rather than demanding. You can contribute from wherever you are in the UK, working remotely with the Planet Fashion team.

How will we measure success?
You'll have clear, achievable activities rather than vague expectations. For example, you might work towards:
- Identifying a number of relevant communities each month
- Starting conversations with potential partners
- Bringing new people into the Planet Fashion community
- Identifying collaboration opportunities
- Supporting community activities or campaigns
- Increasing engagement within relevant communities
We'll focus on meaningful outcomes rather than simply counting hours.

Who we're looking for
We're particularly interested in people who are self-motivated, driven by a desire to make a difference when everyone around is content with just talking about the issues.

Location
UK-based candidates only. The role is fully remote.
Commitment
- 1–2 hours per week
- 6 or 12 month tenure
