Job Description

Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) – Diagnostics

Location: Birmingham, UK | Hybrid

Leadership role | Commercial Finance | Diagnostics

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, Finance is more than a reporting function. Our Finance leaders work alongside business and commercial leadership to shape strategy, guide investment decisions and enable sustainable growth.

We are looking for an experienced Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to join our PDX Diagnostics business and act as a key finance partner to senior commercial leadership.

PDX provides diagnostic assays and instruments supporting the Multiple Myeloma and Immunodeficiency markets. With a strong growth trajectory and ambitious plans for the next five years, this is an opportunity to play an influential role in shaping the future direction and performance of the business.

Reporting into Finance leadership, you will lead an 8-person FP&A and Business Partnering team and serve as the primary Finance Business Partner to the Commercial Vice President.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished finance leader who enjoys operating at the intersection of strategy, commercial performance, analytics and people leadership.

What will you do?

  • Partner with the business to drive performance
    • Act as a trusted finance partner to senior commercial and business leaders, providing insight and constructive challenge to support better decision-making.
    • Translate financial and commercial performance into clear insights, identifying the underlying drivers of revenue, profitability, risk and opportunity.
    • Lead financial analysis and modelling to support strategic investments, growth initiatives and resource-allocation decisions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
