About The Role
At AO, the numbers matter. Understanding what sits behind them matters even more.
We're looking for an FP&A Manager to lead our Group forecasting, budgeting and financial planning processes, providing the insight and challenge that helps shape business decisions at the highest level.
This is a pivotal role with responsibility for consolidating and reporting Group performance across multiple business units, ensuring forecasts are robust, assumptions are challenged and the drivers behind performance are clearly understood. Working closely with senior commercial and operational leaders, you'll become a trusted partner, bringing clarity to complexity and helping stakeholders make confident, informed decisions.
Alongside owning the Group planning cycle, you'll translate large volumes of financial and operational data into meaningful insight, create board-level reporting and play a key role in shaping AO's longer-term financial plans. You'll also lead and develop an FP&A Junior Business Partner, helping to strengthen the capability of the wider team.
For someone who enjoys combining technical excellence with commercial influence, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-paced, growing business.
Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite in our Bolton office 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth. If a £1 bet in the pub between two friends can become the UKs most trusted electrical retailer, imagine what else can be achieved when we’re together.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Owning the Group forecasting and budgeting process, ensuring plans are robust, evidence-based and aligned to business objectives
- Leading the consolidation of Group P&Ls, balance sheets and cashflows, providing a clear view of performance across AO
- Driving a deeper understanding of financial and operational performance by identifying and explaining key trends, risks and opportunities
- Challenging assumptions and improving the quality of forecasts across the business through constructive stakeholder engagement
- Producing weekly Group forecast reporting and supporting the monthly CFO board report
- Preparing board-level papers and executive reporting that turn complex information into clear, actionable insight
- Partnering with senior commercial and operational leaders across the Group to support decision-making
- Developing financial models, dashboards and KPI reporting that improve visibility and performance management
- Leading and developing an FP&A Junior Business Partner
- Delivering high-value analysis that supports strategic priorities and business performance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
