About the Role
The FP&A Manager is a senior member of the UK Finance team, responsible for the financial performance of H&MV Engineering's UK project portfolio. You'll provide financial leadership and commercial challenge throughout project delivery, managing revenue, margins, forecasting, work in progress and sales performance, while identifying and mitigating financial risks and maximising commercial opportunities.
Working closely with operational, project and commercial leaders, you'll make sure project performance is accurately forecast, closely monitored and proactively managed from start to finish.
You'll give the Finance Director and UK Leadership Team clear, timely insight into project and business performance. This will support informed decision-making and drive sustainable margin improvement, stronger cash conversion and greater financial discipline across the UK business.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Leadership
- Act as senior finance lead for the UK project portfolio, providing financial and commercial challenge to project, operational and commercial leadership.
- Ensure project financial performance is understood, accurately reported and actively managed, with early identification of emerging issues.
- Work closely with the Finance Director to provide clear insight into overall UK project performance.

Revenue, Margin & Forecasting
- Own project revenue and margin reporting, ensuring robust processes for revenue recognition, WIP and margin reporting.
- Review and challenge margin forecasts, movements and underlying commercial/operational drivers, identifying opportunities to protect and enhance margins.
- Lead the financial aspects of UK project forecasting, ensuring assumptions are well-supported and forecasting is consistent and disciplined across the business.
Project Reviews & Risk Management
- Support monthly project performance reviews, maintaining reporting and KPIs covering revenue, margin, cost, cash, WIP and forecast performance.
- Identify underperforming projects and track recovery actions; escalate significant risks and opportunities to the Finance Director and leadership team.
- Maintain financial oversight of project risks and opportunities, including variations, claims, contingencies and provisions.
Cash Flow & Business Partnering
- Work with commercial and operational teams to improve project cash conversion and working capital, maintaining oversight of debtors, accrued income and WIP.
- Act as senior finance business partner to UK leadership, translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insight to support decision-making.
Budgeting, Tenders & Process Improvement
- Lead project revenue and margin input into the annual UK budget and periodic forecasts, supporting longer-term planning via pipeline and order book analysis.
- Provide financial support for tenders and new project opportunities, including new win reporting and order book analysis.
- Embed robust financial controls and consistent standards across project forecasting, WIP and margin reporting, identifying opportunities to improve systems and reporting.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
- Significant post-qualification experience within a senior finance or commercial finance role.
- Strong experience within a project-based, contracting or similarly commercially complex business.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, revenue recognition, WIP, project margin and cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Demonstrable experience of reviewing and challenging project financial performance.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis capability.
- Experience of financial risk and opportunity management.
- Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge senior operational and commercial stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to translate complex project financial information into clear business actions.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Desirable
- Senior finance experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, energy or a related contracting environment.
- Experience of significant engineering or construction projects.
- Experience supporting tenders, commercial negotiations, variations and claims.
- Experience of project cash-flow and working-capital management.
- Experience working within a Group structure and partnering with Group Finance.
- Experience improving project finance systems, reporting and controls.
Travel
The successful candidate should be willing to travel to and within the UK, normally on a monthly basis, to work face-to-face with the UK Finance Director and key business stakeholders.
