FPGA Design Engineer - VHDL | FPGA | ModelSim
Location: Derbyshire (Onsite)
Salary: £35,000 - £65,000 + Benefits
UK Security Clearance Required
We're looking for an experienced FPGA Design Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team developing advanced, high-reliability products and systems.
This is a hands-on technical role where you'll work across the FPGA development lifecycle - from architecture and requirements capture through to detailed design, implementation, verification, and testing.
You'll be working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team on complex systems where reliability, security, and engineering quality are critical.
What you'll be doing
- Architecting FPGA systems for new high-reliability products
- Designing and developing FPGA modules using VHDL
- Taking ownership of requirements capture and detailed design
- Defining and coordinating interfaces between internal and external components
- Developing test-bench modules for verification and validation
- Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical problems
- Producing high-quality design documentation and engineering artefacts
- Working with current FPGA technologies, development tools, and design techniques

What we're looking for
- Strong commercial experience developing FPGAs using VHDL
- Experience with ModelSim / QuestaSim
- TCL scripting experience
- Knowledge of current FPGA and SoC technologies
- Experience with the Quartus toolchain
- Version control experience using Git, SVN, CVS, or similar
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another relevant STEM discipline
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to technical quality
Any experience across the following would be particularly useful:
- Vivado, Libero, or Quartus
- Verilog or SystemVerilog
- UVM / OSVVM
- Assertion Based Verification
- Cryptographic algorithms
- Layer 2 / Layer 3 networking protocols
- USB 3.2 or NVMe interfaces
- High-speed FPGA technologies
- Ultra-low-power FPGA design
- Red Hat Linux
