FPGA Engineer – Avionics
Location: London
Salary: £50,000–£90,000 + Equity + Benefits
The Opportunity
We're looking for a FPGA Engineer to join a multidisciplinary avionics team developing next-generation autonomous embedded systems.
- You'll design and develop FPGA solutions within the avionics architecture, working closely with hardware, embedded software, flight software and systems engineers.
- This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working close to hardware and solving complex problems where performance, determinism and reliability are critical.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, develop and verify FPGA-based avionics systems.
- Develop RTL using VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Design high-performance digital processing and data-path architectures.
- Develop interfaces between FPGAs, processors, sensors and other avionics hardware.
- Work with Clock Domain Crossing (CDC), synchronisation and metastability.
- Develop interfaces such as AXI / AXI-Stream, SPI, I2C, UART and Ethernet.
- Perform simulation, synthesis, timing analysis and timing closure.
- Support FPGA bring-up, hardware integration and debugging.
- Work with Xilinx/AMD or Intel FPGA platforms, with Zynq/FPGA-SoC experience highly relevant.

You'll ideally have:
- Commercial FPGA development experience within embedded, aerospace, avionics or high-reliability systems.
- Strong RTL skills using VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with FPGA verification and hardware integration.
- Understanding of CDC, timing constraints and digital design.
- Experience with DSP, real-time signal processing or high-speed digital systems.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with hardware/software co-design.
- Experience with DO-254 or similar aerospace standards would be beneficial.
- Space, satellite, defence or aerospace experience would be highly relevant.
