Fractional CFO Opportunity
I’m working with a high-growth, investor-backed UK business looking for an exceptional Fractional CFO to support a potentially transformational period.
📅 Initially 1 day per week, with scope to increase to 3–4 days as activity progresses
⏳ Initial project expected to run for several months
This isn’t a BAU finance role.
The existing finance team has the day-to-day covered. They need someone senior who can sit alongside the CEO and leadership team and take ownership of a small number of high-value strategic projects involving M&A, capital strategy and a potential transaction.
The initial commitment will be light, but could scale quickly depending on how discussions develop.
The remit will include:
• Supporting and potentially leading the financial work around a strategic acquisition
• Valuation, transaction structuring, diligence and negotiation support
• Helping shape the funding strategy behind the transaction
• Exploring a mixture of existing investors, new capital, strategic investment and potentially secondary liquidity
• Building the financial and investment narrative alongside the CEO
• Acting as a senior sounding board to the founders and board
• Managing investors, advisers and other transaction stakeholders
• Supporting integration planning if a deal completes

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The profile is important.
We’re particularly interested in CFOs who have been through genuine transactions rather than simply advised around them.
Ideally, you will have:
• Strong buy-side M&A experience
• Experience raising capital outside of a straightforward venture round
• Personally been involved in selling / exiting a business — this is particularly important
• Experience navigating shareholders, investors and boards through a transaction
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to challenge founders constructively
• The ability to operate at CEO/board level without needing to own the day-to-day finance function
• Enough flexibility to start at one day per week and increase involvement if required

Experience within consumer, technology, healthcare or another investor-backed growth business would be useful, but transaction experience is more important than sector background.
