Robert Half Partnership Opportunity
Robert Half are exclusively partnering with a highly innovative and rapidly growing medical device business based in Cardiff, seeking an experienced Fractional Chief Financial Officer to join its leadership team on a part-time contract basis (3 days per week) with scope to be outside IR35.
About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to support a scaling business that is commercialising cutting-edge healthcare technology and entering a significant growth phase. The successful candidate will provide both strategic financial leadership and hands-on operational support while playing a key role in future fundraising activities and investor engagement.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with shareholders and investors, the Fractional CFO will help steer the business through its next phase of growth, professionalising financial operations, supporting strategic decision-making, and preparing the company for future investment rounds.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board, and investors.
- Develop and execute the company's financial strategy to support growth objectives.
- Provide commercial insight and financial analysis to support key business decisions.
- Support corporate governance and board reporting requirements.
- Contribute to strategic planning and long-term business modelling.
Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Lead and support future fundraising initiatives including venture capital and private investment rounds.
- Prepare investor materials, financial models, and investment memoranda.
- Manage relationships with existing investors and prospective funding partners.
- Support due diligence processes and investment negotiations.
- Assist with grant funding opportunities and innovation funding applications where appropriate.

Financial Management
- Oversee monthly management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Manage cash flow planning and working capital requirements.
- Build robust financial controls, systems, and processes suitable for a scaling business.
- Drive KPI development and performance reporting across the organisation.
- Support the leadership team with scenario modelling and strategic financial planning.
Operational Finance
- Take a hands-on approach to day-to-day financial oversight.
- Work alongside external accountants, auditors, and advisors.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax requirements.
- Review and enhance existing finance processes to support future growth.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking an experienced CFO or Finance Director who combines strategic capability with a willingness to remain close to the detail.
The ideal candidate will have worked within venture-backed life sciences, healthcare technology, or medical device environments and have previous experience supporting fundraising activity.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a CFO, Fractional CFO, or Finance Director within the Medical Device, MedTech, Life Sciences, or Healthcare Technology sector.
- Demonstrable experience working within Venture Capital-backed businesses.
- Track record of supporting successful fundraising rounds.
- Experience engaging with investors, venture capital firms, and boards.
- Strong financial planning, modelling, and cash management capability.
- Ability to operate effectively in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

Desirable Experience
- Experience of scaling a medical device or healthcare technology business.
- Knowledge of UK medical device regulatory environments.
- Previous exposure to international growth and commercial expansion.
- Experience preparing businesses for future exits, acquisitions, or further investment rounds.
