I'm building Techster — checkout infrastructure that lets independent electronics retailers offer device subscriptions and keep their customers at upgrade, instead of losing them to Amazon, Currys, or the carriers.

The problem

Independent UK electronics retailers sell a device once, then lose the customer at upgrade — usually 24 months later. Raylo and Grover proved consumers want device subscriptions. Nobody has built it as infrastructure for retailers.

Where we are — honestly

  • Early stage. Pre-seed, pre-raise, pre-revenue.
  • MVP built and deployed — checkout, subscription management, customer portal. Live and demo-ready.
  • Co-founder in place (commercial/GTM, signed heads of terms). I run product, tech, and risk.
  • Targeting a £750K pre-seed. Retailer LOI is the current focus before investor conversations open properly.
  • No signed retailers yet. A scored pipeline of ~50 targets and active outreach.

Why fractional, and what's on offer

This isn't a co-founder search — it's fractional. I don't need someone full-time; I need someone senior enough that a specialty lender or an investor treats them as a peer, engaged flexibly and weighted around specific milestones (raise process, lender heads of terms) rather than a fixed weekly slot.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Up to 10% equity, vested over time and tied to delivery — this is a real stake, not a token advisor grant, reflecting how central the finance partner relationship and the raise are to whether this company exists at all. No cash on offer. If you need a day rate, this isn't the right stage for you, and that's fine.

The role

  • Support the pre-seed raise — sanity-check the model, sit in on investor conversations where a CFO in the room changes the outcome, help hold the process together.
  • Drive finance partner (specialty lender) conversations to heads of terms — this is the harder of the two and the one I most need cover on. The finance partner holds the consumer hire agreement and funds the devices; getting this relationship right is core to the model.
  • Light-touch input on FCA consumer hire authorisation as it comes up — not a compliance function, just someone who's been close to regulated lending before.

Who I'm looking for

  • UK-based and UK-market. This is FCA-regulated territory with UK specialty lenders and UK investors — I need someone who's operating in this market already, not remote or advising from abroad.
  • Senior background in lending, asset finance, consumer credit, or capital markets — someone a specialty lender or investor takes seriously immediately, no warm-up required.
  • Comfortable operating fractionally — you're doing this alongside other things, and that's expected, not a red flag.
  • Bonus: exposure to point-of-sale finance, consumer credit, or device/asset leasing specifically. Residual value modelling experience is a strong plus given how the Cycle 2 economics work.
  • This is a finance company wrapped in a fintech product, not a SaaS company with a finance advisor bolted on. If you've never sat across from a lender's credit committee, this probably isn't for you.

  • One deal, facility, or raise you've personally been close to — specifics, not categories.
  • Roughly how much time you could realistically give it, and what that would look like week to week.
  • Why this problem, specifically.

Vague messages and frameworks get a polite no. Specifics get a call.
