Based in Bury St Edmunds, Maxima Opus Ltd provides technology leadership (Fractional CTO), cloud and cyber security expertise to small and medium-sized businesses across the United Kingdom.

Role Description

This part-time remote Fractional CTO role is responsible for providing strategic technology leadership to multiple client organisations.

Day-to-day activities include:

  • Defining and refining IT strategy
  • Overseeing system and cloud architecture
  • Guiding software and product development initiatives to align with business objectives and regulatory requirements

The Fractional CTO will:

  • Collaborate with client leadership teams to assess technology risks, prioritise projects, and establish governance, security, and compliance practices
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, manage technical roadmaps, and ensure delivery standards across internal and external engineering resources
  • Participate in client advisory sessions, produce clear technical documentation, and support business development by contributing to proposals and solution designs

Qualifications

  • Strong background in IT Strategy, technology governance, and roadmap planning for small and medium-sized businesses
  • Experience in Architecture for cloud, security, and scalable platforms, ideally within regulated or security-sensitive industries
  • Hands-on expertise in Software Development practices, engineering leadership, and modern development methodologies
  • Proven track record in Product Development, from discovery and requirements through delivery and lifecycle management
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills, including prioritisation, stakeholder alignment, and cross-functional coordination
  • Deep familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure) and modern cyber security principles and frameworks
  • Excellent communication and consultation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience operating in fractional, interim, or advisory CTO roles is highly beneficial
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced certifications or accreditations in cloud or security are a plus
  • Ability to work remotely, manage multiple client engagements, and operate with high professional integrity and independence
