Location: Remote – strong UK legal/regulatory experience required

Working Pattern: Fractional – approximately 6–8 hours per week

Environment: Early-Stage FinTech

About The Opportunity

Our client is an early-stage FinTech building its senior leadership, governance and operational infrastructure as it prepares for further commercial development and growth.

The company is seeking an experienced Fractional General Counsel to provide senior internal legal leadership and work alongside the Founder/CEO, executive team and specialist external advisers.

This is a build-stage legal role. You will help establish appropriate internal legal infrastructure rather than inherit a mature in-house legal department.

Application – Mandatory Qualifying Questions

Please submit your CV together with a cover letter answering each of the following mandatory qualifying questions:

  • What senior in-house or equivalent legal leadership experience do you have within FinTech, financial services or another highly regulated technology environment?
  • Are you qualified to practise law? Please state your jurisdiction, qualification and current practising status where applicable.
  • What experience do you have advising early-stage or high-growth businesses?
  • Please provide an example of a complex commercial, technology, partnership or financial-services agreement that you personally led or materially negotiated.
  • What experience do you have with UK financial-services regulation and regulatory-perimeter issues?
  • Do you have relevant experience involving payments, trade finance, lending, banking, Web3/blockchain or cross-border financial services? Please explain.
  • What experience do you have coordinating specialist external counsel and deciding when external legal advice is genuinely required?
  • This opportunity requires approximately 6–8 hours per week. Can you consistently commit to this alongside your other professional commitments?

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

We want someone who combines strong legal expertise with commercial judgement.

You should understand the difference between identifying every theoretical legal risk and helping an early-stage executive team understand which risks genuinely matter and what to do about them.

Experience within FinTech, financial services, payments, trade finance, banking, technology contracting and regulated environments would be particularly valuable.

Engagement Structure

This is a fractional engagement of approximately 6–8 hours per week, designed to operate alongside other compatible professional commitments.

The structure is centred on longer-term participation in the development and growth of an early-stage venture rather than a conventional executive package at this stage.

Full details will be discussed with candidates progressing through the process.
