About Cambridge Editorial Studio
Cambridge Editorial Studio is a Cambridge-based editorial consultancy providing copyediting, proofreading and publication support for academic and professional writing. We are expanding our network of freelance editors to enable us to take on a wider range of projects and match manuscripts with editors who have relevant subject expertise.
The Role
We are looking for meticulous and reliable freelance academic copyeditors and proofreaders to work with us on a project-by-project basis. Assignments may include journal articles, book chapters, monographs, edited volumes, doctoral theses and other academic and professional texts.
Work is offered according to subject expertise and availability, with no obligation to accept individual assignments. All work is remote.

We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have:
- an excellent command of written English and a strong sense of idiomatic academic style;
- experience in academic editing, proofreading, publishing or scholarly writing;
- excellent attention to detail;
- familiarity with academic referencing and bibliographic conventions;
- the ability to improve clarity, accuracy and consistency while preserving the author's voice;
- a strong academic or specialist background in one or more subject areas;
- the ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
Knowledge of languages other than English and experience with multilingual or specialist publications are also valuable.

We welcome enquiries from experienced professional editors as well as academics, postdoctoral researchers and independent scholars with strong editorial skills.
Selection
Prospective editors will be asked to complete a short editing sample before we work together for the first time.
Freelance Arrangements
This is freelance work rather than an employed position. Assignments will be offered individually according to subject expertise, availability and client requirements. There is no guaranteed minimum volume of work.
