Role Description
The Freelance Accountant will provide financial support to HARTCLIFFE AND WITHYWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP on a contract basis, working on-site in the City of Bristol. Day-to-day tasks include:
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Preparing and reviewing accounts
- Reconciling bank statements
- Managing invoices and payments
- Producing financial reports for management and trustees
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting
- Ensuring compliance with relevant nonprofit and charity regulations

- Coordinating with project leads on grant funding
- Monitoring spending against budgets
- Assisting with year-end accounts and liaison with external auditors
This position requires independent working, clear communication with non-financial colleagues, and a commitment to transparent financial management in a community-focused setting.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, including experience with ledgers, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for nonprofit or charity organizations.
- Ability to manage invoices, payroll support, and cash flow monitoring with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel).
- Understanding of UK financial regulations, charity finance, and basic tax requirements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-specialists.
- Relevant professional qualification or training in accounting or finance (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Experience working with community organizations or nonprofits and a commitment to equitable, inclusive practices.
