Freelance Advanced Fire Safety Assessor / IQA – ProQual Level 6
Remote / UK-based | Freelance associate | Flexible, ad-hoc caseload
Important payment information: Indeed requires us to display an indicative day rate; however, this is a freelance associate role and payment will be based on an agreed fee per candidate, not a daily rate. The fee will be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant according to the qualification, role and scope of assessment or IQA work.
About TKS Training
TKS Training is looking for suitably qualified fire safety and building-risk professionals to support the delivery of the: ProQual Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Fire Safety Design and Building Risk Management
We welcome applications from qualified Assessors, Internal Quality Assurers, or professionals qualified to undertake both roles.
The opportunity
This is a specialist freelance opportunity, initially offered on an ad-hoc basis, with the potential for an ongoing caseload as the programme grows.
Depending on your role, work may include:
- Assessing technical portfolios against ProQual standards.
- Reviewing fire strategies, reports and professional evidence.
- Conducting professional discussions and observations where required.
- Providing technically sound assessment feedback.
- Recording decisions and evidence on QualsDirect.
- Internally quality-assuring portfolios and assessment decisions.
- Providing IQA feedback and participating in standardisation.
- Supporting experienced professional learners remotely.

The qualification covers advanced fire-safety design, building risk management, fire strategies, compartmentation, façades and external walls, higher-risk buildings, regulatory compliance and safety-case principles.
Level 6 assessor requirements
In accordance with the ProQual specification, assessor applicants must:
- Be occupationally competent in the units they will assess.
- Hold an appropriate recognised assessor qualification.
- Demonstrate a minimum of ten years’ experience in an engineering industry.
- Hold MIFireE membership with the Institution of Fire Engineers.
- Hold CMIOSH membership with IOSH.
Where MIFireE and/or CMIOSH are not currently held, we may consider robust and verifiable evidence of professional recognition through other relevant membership bodies or affiliations at an equivalent level. Any proposed equivalence would be referred to ProQual for confirmation.
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate relevant experience in advanced fire safety, fire engineering, building fire-safety design or building risk management.
Level 6 IQA requirements
Applicants wishing to undertake IQA must:
- Hold an appropriate recognised Level 4 IQA qualification.
- Be occupationally knowledgeable in the relevant fire-safety and building-risk subject areas.
- Be qualified and experienced in making quality-assurance decisions.
- Understand risk-based sampling, standardisation and compliant IQA recordkeeping.
- Be able to challenge inconsistent, insufficient or unsupported assessment decisions.

Please note that the specification’s stated MIFireE, CMIOSH and ten-year engineering requirements relate to assessors. IQA applicants will be considered against the separate occupational-knowledge and quality-assurance requirements.
Working arrangement
- Freelance/self-employed associate basis.
- UK-based.
- Predominantly remote.
- Flexible, ad-hoc caseload initially.
- Activity managed through QualsDirect, Zoom, telephone and email.
- Fees agreed according to the role, caseload and scope of work.
Assessor and IQA decisions must remain independent. Anyone appointed to both roles will not internally quality assure their own assessment decisions.
