I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the Project

This role sits on a live and unusual scheme: a commercial-to-hospitality conversion, currently at design stage, with the wider consultancy team appointed through to procurement, construction and handover. BREEAM Excellent is a planning condition on the scheme, making this a business critical workstream.

The Role

The successful candidate will take ownership of the BREEAM assessment strategy for the project, working closely with the design team to close credit gaps, advise on compliance routes and prepare the project for formal lodgement. This is a hands on, advisory role with direct client exposure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the project against BREEAM RFO (Refurbishment and Fit Out) criteria across all relevant categories, including energy, water, materials, waste and pollution
  • Identifying gaps against the target rating and advising the design team on practical routes to close them
  • Producing clear, actionable recommendations as the design develops
  • Attending client meetings where relevant, providing live feedback and building direct rapport with the project team
  • Coordinating with the wider consultancy team to ensure consistency across the assessment as the project progresses toward lodgement
  • Supporting formal BREEAM lodgement once the assessment reaches that stage
