The Theresa Williams Action Against Domestic Abuse of African Women is part of The Theresa Williams Foundation (TWF), a UK-based non-profit dedicated to ending violence against women and children, with a focus on African and Caribbean communities in the London area. Role Description

The Freelance Counsellor to provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive counselling and emotional support to individuals affected by domestic abuse, primarily within African and Caribbean communities.

Hours: 2.5 hours per week, for 40 weeks. The grant is a year programme.

About the Role

You will give one-to-one counselling to women on the programme. You will help them cope with trauma and build their mental health. Where women need longer-term care, you will refer them on to NHS services or signpost them to other organisations where they will receive a person-centred approach.

You will need

  • Registration with BACP, UKCP, or NCPS
  • Experience of working with survivors of domestic abuse and trauma
  • A good grasp of African and Caribbean cultures, and of Christian and Muslim faiths
  • An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to get one
