Job Description
Neu Garde is a growing UK fashion brand, and we're looking for a freelance fashion designer and pattern cutter to join us on a project basis, working hand-in-hand with our Creative Director on garment sampling for our upcoming drops. This is an exciting opportunity to help bring new products to life through a close, creative process.
Working directly from tech packs, fit references, and design direction, you'll take each concept from brief to finished sample: sourcing materials, cutting patterns, and making garments that realise the Neu Garde vision.
This is a hands-on, collaborative role for a skilled maker who wants to bring their own creative input, not just execute to spec. This role centres on end-to-end sampling across categories, with a current focus on menswear. You'll own the process from material sourcing through to a finished sample ready to hand to our manufacturer for bulk production, staying in close dialogue with the Creative Director throughout.

What you will do:
- Work directly with the Creative Director, taking briefs via tech packs, fit references, and design direction.
- Source materials in the UK, or the closest available match, based on the brief.
- Cut patterns and produce sample garments to specification.
- Communicate throughout the process, checking in on key decisions and offering suggestions as each sample develops.
- Deliver finished samples to the Creative Director — shipped, or collected in person if London-based.
- Refine samples based on feedback, including marking up and adjusting manufacturer samples for fit and proportion.
- Prepare final patterns and samples ready to hand off to our manufacturer for bulk production.
Qualifications
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience in pattern cutting and garment sampling.
- The ability to both cut patterns and sew samples yourself — essential.
- Strong knowledge of fabrics and UK material sourcing.
- A genuinely creative approach: someone with opinions who wants to contribute ideas and shape the product.
- Reliable, consistent communication and the ability to work collaboratively with a Creative Director.

Technical & creative capabilities
- Confident pattern cutting and garment construction.
- Strong understanding of fabric behaviour and how materials perform.
- Experience with denim and/or structured headwear is a plus.
Collaborative ways of working
- Comfortable responding to feedback and revising quickly.
- Strong organisation and self-management as a freelancer.
- Experience working alongside manufacturers or product development teams.

Additional Information
This is a freelance, project-based role. UK-based applicants only, with London preferred for easy in-person sample handoff and review.
