Cogent Networks is looking for a skilled Freelance Backup Support Engineer to provide IT support coverage in Newcastle for the full month of August.
The selected engineer will support the existing onsite technician during the holiday period, ensuring continuity of IT services and assisting users with daily technical issues. This is a temporary freelance assignment for August, with the possibility of being considered for future backup support opportunities throughout the year.
The role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capability to work independently in a client environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first and second-level technical support and Help Desk services.
- Assist end users with hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, and IT peripherals.
- Support Windows environments and corporate applications.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software incidents.
- Provide support for LAN/WAN environments, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and RDP troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot network devices, monitors, printers, routers, switches, and other peripherals.
- Manage and update tickets through the client’s ticketing system.
- Support mobile devices and corporate tools where required.
- Communicate effectively with users and technical teams to ensure quick issue resolution.

Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in IT Help Desk / Desktop Support roles.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in corporate IT environments.
- Good knowledge of Windows operating systems and common business applications.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems (ServiceNow experience is preferred).
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Valid VAT number / Tax registration required (B2B freelance contract).

Preferred Skills
- Experience with VDI environments.
- Knowledge of SCCM/LANDesk/Altiris.
- Experience with MDM solutions such as MobileIron or Intune.
- Knowledge of network troubleshooting and corporate infrastructure.
- Experience supporting printers, RF devices, and specialized peripherals.
