📱 Freelance iOS Engineer
📍 Manchester, UK (1 day per week onsite)
🕒 Contract: 6 Months
⏱️ 40 Hours per Week
💷 £66 Per hour - Inside IR35
We are partnering with a market-leading digital business to recruit experienced iOS Engineers to join a high-performing Experience Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale consumer-facing applications, delivering high-quality native iOS features and backend-driven UI solutions within a fast-paced Agile environment.
🚀 The Opportunity
As an iOS Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, maintaining, and enhancing native iOS applications using modern development practices. You'll work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Backend Engineers, and QA teams to deliver production-ready features through short development cycles.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in established codebases, can quickly become productive with minimal onboarding, and are passionate about building scalable, high-quality mobile experiences.
✅ Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain native iOS features using Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit
- Deliver features from technical design through implementation and release
- Break complex requirements into manageable development tasks
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across product and engineering
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Debug production issues and improve stability and performance
- Participate in code reviews and engineering best practices
- Monitor application quality through observability and crash-reporting tools
- Contribute to backend-driven UI implementations

🔧 Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years' professional iOS development experience
- Strong expertise in Swift
- Experience with SwiftUI and modern iOS architectural patterns (MVVM or similar)
- Solid understanding of UIKit and interoperability with SwiftUI
- Strong knowledge of Xcode and Apple development tooling
- Experience consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs
- Proven experience debugging production applications
- Experience writing unit tests
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to work effectively within large existing codebases
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and deliver with minimal supervision

⭐ Nice to Have
- GraphQL experience
- A/B testing or experimentation platform experience
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, Firebase, etc.
- Mobile performance optimisation expertise
- Familiarity with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
- Experience building large-scale consumer applications
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Codex
