Lifecycle Communications Specialist
We're looking for a lifecycle communications specialist to shape and write every message our members receive as they move through their membership. We need someone who knows what to say, when to say it, and how to make it sound like Canvas8 – across many segments, moments and variants.
This is a craft-led role with strategic reach. You'll set the messaging framework, tone and cadence for member communications, then design and write the sequences that bring each lifecycle moment to life. You'll work hand in hand with our lifecycle and PostHog specialist, who owns the segments, triggers and journeys. They run the engine; you decide what it says.
About us
We are Canvas8, a strategic insights practice operating out of London, NY, LA, Singapore & Manila.
We help our clients understand people so they can make better business decisions.
Our work investigates the hidden insights in everyday life – from the psychology behind the rise of absurdism in media, and teenagers’ obsession with romantasy and fan fiction, to why AI companions are becoming Gen Z’s go-to besties – and makes them meaningful for brands. Our team is a blend of disciplines and skills, from psychology to journalism and anthropology to behavioural economics. What unites us is a desire to understand people and a passion for delivering outstanding work.
About the role
You'll be working on the Canvas8 Membership Platform – a premium, multi-feature digital product used by insight specialists at major global brands and agencies.
Our member communications are behaviour-triggered: what a member does in the product decides what they hear from us next. That covers onboarding sequences, nudges towards features they haven't found, renewal and win-back messages, and prompts for members ready to do more.
Every segment and trigger needs a message worth receiving – and that's a lot of messages. You'll own the strategy, craft and system that make them clear, useful and unmistakably Canvas8.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Strategic:
- Review our current member communications and define a messaging framework: what we say at each lifecycle moment, why, and in what tone
- Set channel, cadence and frequency rules so behaviour-triggered messages and broadcast comms work together rather than pile up
- Decide what makes a meaningful intervention for each segment – which moments deserve a message, and which don't
- Build on our existing Engagement Lifecycle Framework and lifecycle map
Hands-on delivery:
- Design and write lifecycle sequences end to end: onboarding, activation, feature discovery, product-qualified leads, renewal and win-back
- Write the copy – subject lines, body, CTAs and in-product messages – for every segment and trigger
- Script and produce short video walkthroughs (Loom-style) for onboarding and feature discovery, where video explains better than text
- Design reusable email templates and formats: length, structure, hierarchy and when to use each
- Build an AI-assisted workflow for generating and QA-ing copy variants at scale, with prompts, guardrails and a house style so output stays on-brand
- Write A/B test variants, read the results with the team, and iterate
- Document the tone of voice, templates and workflow so the team can keep producing comms after the engagement
Collaboration:
- Work day to day with our lifecycle and PostHog specialist, who owns the segments, triggers and journeys your messages sit in
- Partner with our Member Engagement and editorial teams to align on brand voice and draw on our content library
- Work with the Head of Product Innovation, Strategy Director and Client Partnership team to align on priorities
- Present your thinking clearly and give constructive, expert feedback
Requirements
- At least 5 years in lifecycle, CRM or member communications, with a strong copywriting core
- A portfolio of behaviour-triggered sequences you've designed and written – onboarding, activation, renewal or win-back – not just newsletters
- Experience with subscription, membership, publishing or B2B SaaS products, and a real understanding of what keeps members engaged and renewing
- Able to define a messaging framework and tone of voice, and apply it consistently across many segments and variants
- Confident using AI tools to generate and refine copy at scale, with the judgement to know when output is good enough and when it isn't
- Comfortable working alongside technical and data specialists; you don't need to build the triggers, but you should understand how segments and events shape what you write (PostHog or similar a plus)
- Experience designing email templates and formats, and a clear view on what makes a message effective
- Data-informed: you write test variants, read results and let them change your mind
- Disciplined about documentation and handover, so the work outlives the engagement
- Comfortable working autonomously in a small, fast-paced team
- Nice to have: experience scripting or recording short product videos (Loom or similar)
