Position summary
Quantum Solutions is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney to fully own and manage the development of our patent portfolio on a flexible, project-by-project basis. You will provide practical, commercially focused advice on ongoing and future patent applications, guide the business on deadlines and required actions, draft and submit patent applications, and file and respond to patent offices. This position requires strong experience utilising AI tools to support the patent process. This engagement is expected to average approximately 20 hours per month, with workload varying according to filing deadlines and project activity.
What you’ll do
- Manage and coordinate ongoing and future patent applications alongside our CEO and Project Leads
- Maintain a clear view of application status, statutory deadlines, upcoming milestones, costs, and required business actions
- Responsible for filing patent applications, evaluating patentability, claim scope, prosecution options, and portfolio priorities in line with commercial objectives
- Draft patent applications, claims, technical descriptions, and supporting materials to improve clarity, accuracy, and defensibility
- Submit responses to examination reports, office actions, search reports, and other correspondence from patent offices
- Work closely with our technical team to identify patentable inventions, capture relevant evidence, and translate complex concepts into robust patent disclosures
- Use AI-enabled tools appropriately to support patent research, drafting, analysis, and workflow efficiency, while applying professional judgement, confidentiality controls, and independent verification

What you’ll bring
- Qualification as a UK Patent Attorney, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification
- A degree or substantive technical background in a STEM discipline; materials science, chemistry, physics, semiconductor technology, or a closely related field
- A practical, current understanding of generative AI and other AI-enabled tools used in patent research, prior-art analysis, drafting, and portfolio management
- Demonstrable experience drafting, reviewing, and prosecuting technically complex patent applications related to advanced materials, optical or imaging technologies, chemistry, or adjacent deep-tech fields
- Strong understanding of patent office procedures, prosecution timelines, formal requirements, and deadline management
- Ability to understand emerging technologies quickly and communicate effectively with scientists, engineers, executives, and external counsel
- Sound judgement regarding confidentiality, data security, privilege, accuracy, and the limitations of AI-generated outputs in legal work
- Excellent written communication, attention to detail, responsiveness, and the ability to work independently within a lean, fast-moving business
