Freelance Planning Manager, Solar DCO
South West England (Hybrid, with on-site attendance)
£600 - £700 per day, initial 6-month contract
Our client is a UK renewable energy developer taking a utility-scale solar project of several hundred megawatts through the Development Consent Order process. The team needs to increase its experienced planning capacity rapidly. This role puts you at the centre of one of the larger NSIPs in the UK pipeline, through the key stages.
The Company
Our client is an established renewable energy developer with an active in-house development team. Alongside its NSIP work, it runs a wider portfolio of Town and Country Planning Act projects. They are open to candidates from developer, consultancy or independent backgrounds. They want someone who can work on their own and add real capacity from day one.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
