Freelance PR & Agency Manager

Bullboat | Freelance / Part-time | Remote / Europe

We don't need someone to do all the PR. We need someone who knows how to make PR agencies perform. Bullboat is a pan-European distributor and growth partner for innovative consumer brands. We work with ambitious brands across categories including pet tech, beauty & wellness, smart home and consumer technology, helping them launch and scale through European retail.

As our portfolio grows, we're looking for an experienced Freelance PR & Agency Manager to take ownership of the PR agencies supporting our brands. This is a role for someone who knows what great PR looks like — and knows how to get an agency to deliver it.

What you'll do

You'll sit between Bullboat, our brands and our external PR agencies, making sure we have the right agencies, the right strategy and the right execution.

You'll:

  • Find and vet PR agencies across key European markets.
  • Assess agencies on their track record, media relationships, creativity, category expertise and ability to deliver meaningful results.
  • Help select the right agency for each brand and negotiate scopes, budgets and KPIs.
  • Brief agencies clearly on the brand, product, commercial objectives and priorities.
  • Work closely with agencies on PR strategy, campaigns, launches and ongoing activity.
  • Keep agencies motivated, proactive and accountable.
  • Review plans and results and challenge agencies when they're not delivering.
  • Identify opportunities agencies may be missing.
  • Make sure PR activity supports wider Bullboat objectives — particularly retail launches and commercial growth.
  • Establish clear KPIs and regularly assess agency performance.
  • Report back to Bullboat management on what's working, what's not and what needs to change.
  • Recommend when an agency needs to improve, change direction — or be replaced.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced PR professional who has managed agencies rather than simply worked within them. You might be:

  • A senior PR agency account director
  • An experienced freelance PR consultant
  • An in-house PR/communications leader
  • Someone who has managed multiple consumer brands and external agencies

You will need:

  • Strong consumer PR experience
  • Excellent knowledge of the media landscape
  • Experience selecting and managing PR agencies
  • A strong network of PR contacts and agencies
  • Excellent judgement about what constitutes good PR
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • The confidence to challenge agencies when necessary
  • The ability to build excellent relationships while still holding people accountable
  • Energy, initiative and a hands-on approach
  • The ability to manage multiple brands and markets without losing focus

Experience in consumer technology, pet tech, beauty/wellness, smart home or other innovative consumer products would be particularly valuable.

The personality we're looking for

You are:

  • Commercial. You understand that PR isn't just about coverage — it's about building brands and supporting growth.
  • Proactive. You don't wait for agencies to tell you what's happening. You push them for ideas and opportunities.
  • A challenger. You're comfortable saying, "That's not good enough — what else can we do?"
  • Diplomatic. You can challenge an agency hard without damaging the relationship.
  • Energetic. You enjoy working with entrepreneurial brands and fast-moving teams.
  • Curious. You get excited about new products and figuring out why consumers and journalists should care about them.
  • Results-driven. You care about outcomes, not just activity reports.

What success looks like

Within the first few months, you'll have:

  • Assessed our existing PR agency relationships.
  • Identified where we have strong partners and where we need improvement.
  • Established clear KPIs and expectations.
  • Improved the quality and consistency of agency output.
  • Built strong relationships with our agency teams.
  • Identified new PR opportunities across our brands and markets.
  • Given Bullboat a clear view of the performance and value we're getting from our PR investment.

Ultimately, your job is to make our PR agencies better. If an agency is great, you'll help them become even better. If they're underperforming, you'll fix it. And if they're the wrong agency, you'll find us a better one.

Interested? If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Please send us your CV/LinkedIn profile along with a short note explaining which consumer brands you've worked with, which agencies you've managed, and an example of when you've turned around or significantly improved PR performance.
