Role Description
The Freelance SEDEX/SMETA Auditor will support ethical trade and social compliance projects, focusing on SEDEX-related assessments and documentation for clients in Greater London and beyond. This is a contract role with a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site visits in the Greater London area with some work from home for reporting and coordination. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Preparing for and conducting SEDEX-related ethical audits
- Reviewing supplier documentation
- Assessing compliance against relevant standards
- Compiling clear, accurate audit reports
- Communicating findings to clients
- Advising on corrective actions and continuous improvement
- Collaborating with GCL technical teams to ensure consistency and quality of assessments

The freelancer will manage their schedule to meet project deadlines, maintain professional standards, and uphold GCL’s commitment to integrity and sustainability in global supply chains.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of SEDEX, SMETA, CSCA Level 3 PASS, and social compliance frameworks, including experience conducting ethical trade audits.
- Background in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or supply chain management, ideally within manufacturing, textiles, or consumer goods sectors.
- Proficiency in audit methodologies, report writing, and documentation review, with attention to detail and ability to present findings clearly.
- Good understanding of labor standards, health and safety, environmental practices, and responsible sourcing requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with suppliers and client representatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify risks, and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Ability to work independently on a contract basis, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to hybrid working (on-site and remote).
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in a related field (e.g., sustainability, business, social sciences, environmental management) is beneficial.
- Previous auditing experience (e.g., ISO, social compliance, ethical trade) and recognized auditor training or certifications are an advantage.
