I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

How we'll work together
You'll become an extension of the Studio North team, working alongside our strategists, account managers and creatives rather than operating as a standalone external supplier. So whilst this is a largely a remote role, you'd ideally be in commutable distance from Manchester city centre so available for office-based team briefing and collaborative working.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable contributing ideas, constructively challenging thinking and bringing specialist social media expertise into the wider client conversation.
Initially, we're anticipating around 3–5 days of support per month, although this may fluctuate depending on client requirements. The engagement will operate on a rolling monthly freelance basis, with the potential to develop into a longer-term part-time position as the role grows.
Interested?
We'd love to hear from experienced social media specialists who enjoy combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
Please send us a short introduction outlining your experience, examples of B2B social media accounts or campaigns you've worked on, your typical freelance day rate and your current availability.
