Company Description
The Ndebele Students Association (NSA) is a multi-award-winning organization committed to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage and traditions of the Ndebele people within universities. Operating across 10 major South African institutions, the NSA advocates for the inclusion of isiNdebele in academic programs and supports students through cultural and educational initiatives. The association collaborates with traditional leaders, the Ndebele monarch, and Parliament to advance recognition of Ndebele language and culture. NSA offers a strong community that fosters academic achievement, leadership development, and cultural pride for Ndebele students and allies. Its work sets a benchmark for culturally focused student organizations nationwide.
Role Description
The Freelance Technical Writer will be responsible for creating clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation related to NSA systems, processes, and educational resources. This full-time remote role includes drafting and updating manuals, guidelines, and process documentation for internal teams, students, and partner institutions. Day-to-day tasks involve:

The Technical Writer will also help establish documentation standards, maintain version control, and support the creation of online help content and training materials. Collaboration with program coordinators, IT teams, and academic partners will be required to ensure all documentation aligns with NSA’s mission and quality expectations.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Technical Writing and Technical Communication for diverse academic and cultural audiences.
- Skills in Technical Documentation and Documentation management, including organizing and maintaining structured content.
- Skills in developing and updating Manuals and other user-focused guides for systems, programs, and processes.
- Excellent written communication skills in English; proficiency or interest in isiNdebele or other African languages is an advantage.
- Experience working remotely, with strong time management, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a freelance environment.
- Familiarity with documentation tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or similar platforms) and basic understanding of version control or content management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Technical Communication, Linguistics, Information Systems, Education, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in cultural preservation, student advocacy, or higher education environments is beneficial.
