About the Role
Haines Temporary Works Ltd is looking to establish a working relationship with an experienced freelance Temporary Works Engineer / Design Checker to provide design checking support on an ad-hoc basis.
The work will primarily involve CAT I design checks in accordance with BS 5975, with the potential for other temporary works design and checking work depending on experience and workload.
This is not a permanent position or employed position. It is intended for an engineer operating independently, either as a sole trader or through their own consultancy/company.

Work will be offered on a project-by-project basis, with no minimum workload or obligation to accept individual projects. A fee will be agreed for each assignment based on its scope and complexity.
The arrangement is fully remote, and the engineer will remain free to undertake their own projects and work for other clients.
Experience
Applicants should have:
- Strong and demonstrable temporary works design experience.
- Experience undertaking temporary works design checks in accordance with BS 5975.
- Good knowledge of relevant UK structural design standards and temporary works procedures.
- Demonstrable competence and experience appropriate to independently check the types of temporary works assigned.
- Ability to provide clear checking comments and maintain an appropriate checking record.
- Experience in the design/checking of common temporary works items including: hoardings, fencing, formwork, working platforms, foundations, and general structural temporary works.
