Job Opportunity: Freelance Travel Spend & Market Explorer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Freelance Travel Spend & Market Explorer based in the United Kingdom.

This is a flexible, project-based opportunity for curious travelers who want to turn their everyday experiences abroad into valuable market insights. You’ll explore cafes, markets, local shops, and other everyday venues while observing how people pay in different environments. Your feedback will help improve a digital payment experience designed specifically for travelers across Southeast Asia. The role combines real-world exploration, lightweight research, customer empathy, and direct product feedback. You’ll work independently, gathering practical insights from the places you already visit as part of your travels. It’s an opportunity to earn while exploring, contribute to an emerging travel technology product, and potentially unlock future project opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Visit everyday locations such as cafes, restaurants, markets, shops, and local vendors as part of your normal travel routine and document the payment experience.
  • Test digital payment functionality by scanning local QR codes and reporting clearly on successful transactions, difficulties, and points of friction.
  • Research local payment habits and help identify the balance between cash and digital payments in the cities you visit.
  • Identify where QR payments are widely accepted and where cash remains the dominant payment method.
  • Observe practical barriers that travelers may encounter when attempting to use local digital payment methods.
  • Interact naturally with local merchants and document their reactions and experiences when foreign travelers use local digital payment solutions.
  • Provide clear, honest, and practical feedback based on real-world observations and customer experiences.
  • Complete research tasks independently while following a straightforward project brief and submitting findings in a timely manner.
  • Contribute ideas and product feedback based on your own experience as a traveler and user of digital payment services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
