Freelance Visual Merchandiser – Luxury Fashion

Caramel, London | 4 days per month

Caramel is looking for an exceptional creative Visual Merchandiser with a strong background in luxury fashion and an instinctive understanding of our aesthetic.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role working across our London retail spaces — Notting Hill, Ellis Street and Selfridges — approximately one day per week / four days per month.

We are looking for someone with a sophisticated visual eye who understands colour, proportion, styling, storytelling and the subtlety required in luxury retail. The right person should be able to interpret the Caramel world rather than simply follow conventional visual-merchandising formulas.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The role will include:

  • Developing a strong visual direction for each store in keeping with the Caramel identity
  • Styling and merchandising collections to create inspiring, beautifully considered spaces
  • Working with colour, texture, furniture, props and product placement
  • Refreshing the stores regularly around new deliveries, seasonal stories and key commercial moments
  • Creating moodboards and visual proposals before implementing major changes
  • Ensuring consistency across the three London locations while respecting the character of each space
  • Working closely with the founder and creative team

We are particularly interested in someone who comes from a luxury fashion, design or highly creative retail background and who understands that great visual merchandising is about atmosphere and storytelling as much as product placement.

This role would suit an experienced freelance Visual Merchandiser or creative consultant looking for an ongoing relationship with an independent luxury brand.

To apply, please send your CV/portfolio together with examples of your previous visual merchandising work.

We would also love to see a small moodboard showing how you interpret the Caramel aesthetic and how you might approach one of our stores.
