Freight Forwarding Operation & Procurement Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
This position reports to the VP Canadian Global Forwarding and is responsible for coordinating domestic and international shipments while supporting procurement activities, including vendor management, sourcing, and contract negotiation in collaboration with the director of global procurement. This role ensures efficient transportation operations and cost-effective purchasing to support business needs.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Freight Coordination
- Establish and implement the Global Forwarding process.
- Participate as a SME in the deployment of CargoWise.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments with carriers and co-loaders in all modes of transport.
- Make arrangement for the physical movement of cargo; identify discrepancies or issues.
- Expectations of meeting required deadlines associated with department and customer KPIs & SOPs.
- Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with internal departments and/or vendors.
- Track shipments and proactively communicate delays or issues to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
- Resolve freight discrepancies, claims, and service issues.
- Monitor freight costs and identify opportunities for optimization.

Procurement
- Source vendors and obtain competitive quotes for goods and services.
- Create quote and manage rate requests from sales team.
- Maintain supplier relationships and support contract negotiations.
- Track and reconcile procurement-related invoices.
Collaboration & Administration
- Work closely with Operations and Finance.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, orders, and supplier information.
- Generate reports on freight spending and procurement activity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across logistics and purchasing.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Must have freight forwarding experience in Europe.
- Highly motivated and detail-oriented team player and dedicated to providing high-quality customer service.
- Excellent decision-making skills; ability to learn, adapt, and thrive under pressure.
- Proven organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task.
- Customer Service Skills – communicate effectively, directly and indirectly, with clients, vendors, co-workers, government agencies, and industry partners via phone and email to complete challenging tasks in a time-sensitive manner.
- Proficient in CargoWise.
- MS Office Suite skills – namely Outlook, Excel, and Word.
WORK EXPERIENCE – MINIMUM REQUIRED
- 5 years of related experience
EDUCATION
- Required: High School/GED or equivalent

Base salary is one component of our total rewards package which also includes incentive opportunities, benefits, and professional development. Salary ranges are established by location and reflect relevant factors such as skills, experience, and market conditions. The good-faith salary range for this position is TBD CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on these factors and may vary accordingly.
