Role Purpose

The Freight Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimising all inbound and outbound freight operations across the GSF Car Parts network. The role ensures cost-effective, compliant, and reliable transport solutions that support branch availability, customer service levels, and overall supply chain performance.

Key Responsibilities

Freight & Transport Management

  • Manage all freight operations including inbound supplier deliveries, inter-branch transfers, and outbound distribution
  • Develop and implement freight strategies to support business growth and service objectives
  • Ensure on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery performance across the network

  • Control freight spend and deliver continuous cost improvements
  • Negotiate contracts and rates with carriers, hauliers, and third-party logistics providers
  • Analyse freight data to identify efficiencies, reduce empty mileage, and improve load utilisation

Supplier & Carrier Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transport partners and suppliers
  • Monitor carrier performance against agreed SLAs and KPIs
  • Manage tenders, renewals, and service reviews

About You

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a freight, transport, or logistics management role
  • Strong understanding of UK road transport regulations
  • Experience managing third-party carriers and freight contracts
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities

Desirable

  • Experience within automotive aftermarket, retail distribution, or fast-paced logistics environments
  • Knowledge of multi-site distribution networks
  • Experience using TMS or logistics planning systems
