Freight Operations Clerk
Location: Feltham
Salary: £30,000 Base + Benefits
Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off rotating
The Opportunity
Our client, an established business, is looking to add an experienced Operations Clerk to its busy, site-based team.
This is a practical, hands-on position reporting to the Operations Manager. The successful individual will support the wider operation on a daily basis, working closely with colleagues across Operations, Warehouse, and other functions to keep activity running efficiently.
We are looking for someone dependable and well organized, who is comfortable managing their own workload and takes pride in getting things right. The successful candidate will require strong communication skills and a proactive approach to improving processes will be important.
Responsibilities
- Managing assigned daily and weekly operational activities, ensuring deadlines and service requirements are met.
- Handling and responding to HMRC-related matters, including customs holds, seizures, and post-clearance amendments.
- Working in line with company procedures, training documentation, and established operating processes.
- Liaising with Warehouse Supervisors to maintain accurate inventory information and support the efficient movement of goods.
- Taking full ownership of allocated work and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Maintaining clear communication with colleagues and management, keeping relevant people informed of progress and issues.
- Escalating operational problems promptly and putting forward practical ideas to improve efficiency.
- Supporting corrective actions where errors occur, with a focus on learning from issues and preventing repeat occurrences.
- Keeping abreast of developments affecting customs processes, systems, and wider industry requirements.
- Adapting confidently to new systems, procedures, and ways of working.

Experience Required
- Previous experience within freight forwarding, customs, or logistics.
- Strong working knowledge of Sea, Air, and Road imports.
- Good working knowledge of Sequoia, CNS, and Destin8.
- Experience dealing directly with HMRC regarding customs holds, seizures, and post-clearance amendments.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A dependable approach with excellent attendance and timekeeping.
- The ability to operate effectively within a team while independently managing your own responsibilities.
- A professional communication style when dealing with colleagues, customers, and internal departments.
- The initiative to identify opportunities to improve processes and team performance.
- A willingness to develop and learn new skills.

It would also be advantageous to have:
- Knowledge of CDS (Customs Declaration Service).
- Experience with UK export procedures.
- Previous exposure to customs queries and wider operational issues.
- Experience working with freight forwarding and customs software/systems.
