What role you will play in our team
If successful, you will be an integral part of our Global Trading organization, supporting freight trading and commercial activities across global energy markets. We are seeking a highly motivated analyst with strong freight market knowledge, analytical capabilities, and commercial acumen to develop market insights, valuation frameworks, and decision-support tools that support freight asset optimization, freight trading strategies, and portfolio performance.
In this role, you will work closely with freight traders, chartering teams, originators, and commercial stakeholders to evaluate freight asset opportunities, vessel economics, chartering strategies, and portfolio exposures. You will contribute to the development of actionable market views and analytical solutions that drive value capture across the freight asset book while supporting commercial decision-making in a dynamic global shipping environment.
What you will do
- Monitor and analyze global freight markets, including vessel supply and demand balances, fleet utilization, freight rate movements, chartering activity, and market fundamentals.
- Develop and maintain analytical models supporting freight asset valuation, portfolio optimization, earnings forecasting, and commercial decision-making.
- Evaluate freight asset performance across owned, leased, and contracted vessel positions, identifying opportunities to maximize commercial value.
- Analyze time charter, voyage charter, and other freight contract opportunities to support portfolio management and trading decisions.
- Assess vessel deployment strategies, utilization scenarios, and market opportunities to optimize returns across the freight asset book.
- Develop market forecasts and scenario analyses to support freight trading, chartering, and investment decisions.
- Partner closely with freight traders and chartering teams to translate market fundamentals into actionable commercial strategies.
- Analyze freight market dislocations, vessel positioning, trade flow developments, and regional market dynamics to identify value opportunities.
- Support economic evaluations of freight assets, chartering arrangements, transportation agreements, and strategic freight investments.
- Conduct back-testing, sensitivity analysis, and performance assessments of freight trading and asset optimization strategies.
- Utilize vessel tracking data, AIS data, freight market intelligence, and proprietary datasets to improve market transparency and commercial decision-making.
- Assess the impact of regulatory developments, environmental regulations, geopolitical developments, and other external factors on freight asset performance and portfolio value.
- Produce market commentary, portfolio analysis, and commercial reporting for freight trading teams and senior stakeholders.
- Collaborate with quantitative analysts, commercial teams, and technology organizations to enhance freight analytics capabilities and decision-support tools.
- Support strategic projects and ad hoc commercial analyses related to freight trading, asset optimization, and portfolio growth initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
