Ilkley & District Good Neighbours is a long-standing local charity, founded in the 1970s, dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable people in the district. The organization runs a range of social and practical schemes that support community connection, independence, and wellbeing. These schemes are delivered with the help of a committed team of volunteers who give their time to assist others in their local area. The charity is based at Riddings Hall on Riddings Road in Ilkley and believes strongly in the power of community action to make a meaningful difference in people’s daily lives.
Role Description
The Friendship Group Coordinator is a part-time, on-site role based in Ilkley, responsible for planning, organising and overseeing regular friendship and social group activities. This includes scheduling sessions, managing volunteers and ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all attendees. The coordinator will support and guide volunteers, manage group attendance records, and maintain clear communication with participants, families, and partner organisations. Day-to-day tasks also involve identifying the needs and interests of group members, promoting inclusion, handling basic administrative duties, and reporting on group outcomes to the charity’s manager and trustees. The role requires a caring and proactive approach to building social connections, reducing isolation and fostering a sense of community among participants.

Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with participants, volunteers, and partner organizations.
- Organisational and time-management skills to plan activities, manage schedules, and handle day-to-day administration effectively.
- Experience coordinating groups, events, or community activities, ideally within a charity, community, health, or social care setting.
- Skills in volunteer support and coordination, including motivating, guiding, and working collaboratively with volunteer teams.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable and socially isolated people, with a non-judgmental and inclusive approach.
- Basic IT skills for email, record-keeping, and simple documentation; familiarity with standard office software is beneficial.
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and good practice when working with vulnerable adults is advantageous.
- Relevant training or qualifications in community work, social care, or a related field are desirable but not essential if supported by suitable experience.
