From Performance to Worship
There's a version of work that most of us fall into without ever choosing it on purpose. You clock in, you get through the list, you clock out, and the whole thing runs on autopilot somewhere between obligation and survival. It's not that you hate your job necessarily; it's just that somewhere along the way, work stopped being anything more than performance, something you do to be seen as competent, to hit a target, to avoid getting in trouble.

Paul offers something entirely different in Romans 12:1, and it's worth reading slowly because it's easy to skim past the weight of what he's actually saying:

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
Notice what Paul doesn't say. He doesn't say singing on a Sunday morning is your true worship, as if the rest of the week doesn't count toward anything. He says offering your whole life, your whole body, everything you do with it, including the Monday through Friday grind, is your reasonable, ordinary act of worship, not something extra you tack on. The actual expected posture of a life given to God.

It's simply about recognising that the work you've already been given, yes, even the tedious bug you've been putting off, even the legacy codebase nobody wants to touch, carries real weight because you're doing it as an offering to Him rather than just a task to survive.
When you write code that's clean and genuinely maintainable rather than just functional, you're echoing something of the order and beauty of a God who spoke all of creation into existence with nothing but His word. When you build systems that actually protect people's data instead of cutting corners, you're reflecting a God who guards and watches over what belongs to Him. When you find an elegant solution to something that looked impossibly tangled, you're echoing the wisdom of the One who holds all understanding. None of that is a stretch. It's simply what it looks like when ordinary work is offered as worship instead of just survived as performance.
