Front End Developer — UK Government Programme | Contract | Hybrid — Newcastle, Manchester or Leeds

We're looking for a Front End Developer to join our client on a major UK Government programme. This is a contract role with 40% on site and travel about once per sprint. You'll help shape a greenfield digital service from the ground up.

You'll join a multi-disciplinary team delivering public services that support people at some of the most important moments of their lives. You'll work with architects, designers and engineers to design the technical approach, solution and user interface, and you'll keep the user's needs at the heart of everything the team builds.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the technical design of a brand-new application, working closely with architects and designers to shape the solution and user interface
  • Building accessible, user-centred front ends that meet WCAG accessibility standards and GDS standards & patterns
  • Developing with JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js (Express/Fastify), plus Nunjucks templating
  • Delivering thorough unit test coverage with Jest or Mocha
  • Integrating with SQL/NoSQL databases, Redis caching and API microservices, deployed into cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure through CI/CD pipelines
  • Breaking designs down into clear, deliverable technical stories and giving technical leadership to the Agile team
  • Driving improvements to both system functionality and supporting processes

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
