Front Office AI Lead

London | Hedge Fund | Front Office Technology / AI

Tempest Vane Partners is working with a recently launched, diversified credit multi-strategy hedge fund that is looking to hire its first dedicated AI specialist.

This is a strategic front-office role, reporting directly to the COO and working closely with Portfolio Managers and senior management. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping the firm identify where AI can create genuine efficiencies, improve decision-making and develop practical solutions for investment professionals.

The role sits at the intersection of investment expertise, AI/ML and data, with significant scope to shape the firm's approach to AI from the ground up.

The Role

You will act as a central resource for AI implementation across the firm, with a particular focus on the front office.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Portfolio Managers and senior management to identify opportunities where AI can improve productivity and decision-making.
  • Running workshops, demonstrations and one-to-one sessions to educate staff on the practical applications of AI.
  • Identifying and implementing AI tools and data-driven solutions to solve business problems.
  • Developing practical AI use cases and helping shape the firm's broader AI strategy.
  • Supporting staff in the effective and responsible use of AI.
  • Building and maintaining AI tools, with appropriate documentation and governance.
  • Understanding where AI is genuinely useful and recognising its limitations.
  • Running multiple projects simultaneously and driving change across the organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Background

The firm is open-minded regarding background and experience and is primarily looking for someone with the technical capability, investment knowledge and personality to drive change.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Investment knowledge, ideally gained within a hedge fund, asset manager, investment bank or similar environment.
  • An understanding of financial markets and investment processes. Experience across every strategy is not expected.
  • Exposure to strategies such as convertible bond arbitrage, distressed credit or volatility would be beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML and data engineering.
  • Exceptional numeracy and data analysis skills.
  • Experience building or working with custom GPTs, AI skills and connectors.
  • The ability to translate a front-office problem into a practical technical solution.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong appetite for change and the ability to prioritise delivering useful solutions over achieving perfection.
  • A systems mindset, with the ability to conceptualise inputs, processes and outputs.
  • CFA or IMC would be desirable but are not essential.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing hedge fund as its first AI hire and have a significant influence on how AI is adopted across the organisation.

You will have direct exposure to Portfolio Managers and senior management, with the autonomy to identify opportunities, build solutions and see them implemented across the business.

The firm is particularly interested in finding someone who combines investment knowledge, technical ability and exceptional interpersonal skills, someone who can challenge established ways of working and turn new ideas into practical solutions.
