A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FRONT OFFICE PORTER AT THE EDINBURGH GRAND
What You'll Be Doing...
- Welcome guests warmly and professionally, creating a great first and last impression of The Edinburgh Grand.
- Assist guests with their luggage on arrival and departure, ensuring their belongings are handled with care.
- Support the Front Office team with guest requests, deliveries, luggage storage and other day-to-day requirements.
- Escort guests to their rooms and provide helpful information about the hotel, its facilities and the local area.
- Be a friendly and knowledgeable ambassador for Edinburgh, sharing recommendations and helping guests make the most of their stay.
- Assist with guest transportation arrangements, including taxis and other travel requests where required.
- Keep the entrance, lobby and Front Office areas clean, tidy and welcoming at all times.
- Work closely with the Front Office and wider hotel teams to ensure a smooth and seamless guest experience.
- Handle guest belongings and hotel equipment responsibly, following all health, safety and security procedures.
- Be ready to support the wider team wherever needed, helping to create the high standards of service expected at The Edinburgh Grand.

What We Need From You
- A warm, friendly and professional approach, with a genuine passion for looking after guests.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence when speaking with guests from a variety of backgrounds.
- A helpful and proactive attitude, always looking for ways to make a guest's stay more enjoyable.
- Good knowledge of Edinburgh or an enthusiasm for learning about the city and sharing recommendations.
- A team-focused approach, working closely with Front Office and other departments to deliver a seamless experience.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when handling guest belongings and responding to requests.
- The ability to remain calm, organised and professional in a busy hotel environment.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and evenings, depending on business needs.
- Previous hotel or customer service experience is welcomed but not essential — we are looking for someone with the right attitude and willingness to learn.
