About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Front-End Developer to join our dynamic team at DWP Digital. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development of high-quality, reusable front-end components and patterns that support the evolution of the DWP Design System. Your expertise will help ensure that our digital services are accessible, consistent, and user-centered across all platforms and devices. As a technical leader, you will provide guidance and mentorship to team members, champion best practices, and drive the adoption of innovative front-end solutions. Your contributions will directly impact the delivery of strategic products that enable teams to design and deliver exceptional digital services efficiently and effectively.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge and extensive experience in modern front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and open-source frameworks. Proven experience designing accessible, user-centered interfaces that adhere to WCAG 2.2 standards is essential. You should have a strong track record of developing robust, maintainable, and well-tested code, as well as integrating front-end applications with back-end services and other technical systems. Demonstrable experience in providing technical leadership, setting standards, and guiding multidisciplinary agile teams is required. Additionally, a passion for coaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment is highly valued.

Responsibilities
- Leading the development of reusable front-end patterns, components, and code libraries to shape the technical direction of the DWP Design System.
- Building, maintaining, and supporting front-end products using modern tooling, test-driven development, and iterative delivery practices to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of front-end solutions with back-end services, delivering consistent experiences across browsers and devices.
- Championing accessibility, user experience, and design consistency, ensuring all products meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards and align with established design principles.
- Mentoring colleagues, engaging with the wider engineering and user-centered design communities, and overcoming technical challenges.
- Identifying and managing technical and business constraints, setting clear priorities, and contributing to the continuous improvement of government frameworks, standards, and ways of working.

- The salary ranges from £57,946 to £80,664, with an opportunity for a Digital Allowance of up to £12,459 per annum for exceptional candidates.
- Benefits include a generous civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, which can amount to up to £16,786 annually.
- The leave package includes a minimum of 25 days, increasing to 30 days over time, along with up to three additional days off per month on flexi-time and all public holidays.
