Frontend Engineer Intern – UI/UX & Improvements (Unpaid)

Remote | 6 months | ~20 hrs/week | Start ASAP | Compulsory, credit-bearing UK placement | Deadline: 10/11/2026 | Unpaid work-experience placement (a required part of your course)

About Sodium Learn

Sodium Learn is an enterprise EdTech startup based in the UK. We are building an intelligent learning and workforce capability platform for regulated SMEs and scaling startups: businesses that need to develop their people, stay compliant & perform, but do not have internal resources or time to handle the manual admin.

The role

You will work closely with our Frontend Engineer & Chief Product & Experience Designer to turn approved UI/UX designs into clean, production-ready frontend across the Sodium Learn platform: Create (our AI-assisted authoring tool), Manage (the admin experience) and Learn (the learner app). Your focus is markup and improvements: building accurate, accessible and responsive screens from Figma, and polishing the details (spacing, states, consistency and small bugs) that make the product feel finished. You will be mentored by our Founding Software Engineer and you will learn how a real product team ships.

This is an AI-enabled role. You will use AI coding tools every day to move faster, and you will learn to review, test and take responsibility for everything you ship.

Our tech stack

Sodium Learn is a multi-tenant platform made up of several frontends built with a micro-frontend approach, using Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. You will work across these apps, so you will gain experience with more than one framework and see how they fit together in a real product.

What you will contribute towards:

  • Design to code: translate Figma designs into semantic, accessible and responsive markup and styles, following the Sodium Learn design system (colours, typography, spacing, components) and flagging gaps or edge cases back to design early
  • Authoring and learner experience: help polish what authors and learners use every day
  • UI improvements: review existing screens for inconsistencies in layout, spacing, typography, colour and components, then fix them. Pick up small bugs and polish tasks from the backlog
  • Reusable components: help build and tidy reusable UI components and styles, so new screens are quicker to build and stay consistent across our apps and tenant-branded experiences
  • Responsive and accessible by default: check your work across screen sizes and browsers, and apply accessibility basics (semantic HTML, keyboard use, focus states, contrast, alt text)
  • AI-assisted workflow: use AI tools to generate first drafts of markup, refactor code, write tests and explore options, then review and refine the output yourself. Share what works and what does not
  • Collaborate: work with our Frontend Engineer, Founding Engineer, product and design teams, share work in progress often, take part in code reviews, communicate clearly in writing and explain your decisions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
