About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to join our dynamic team. This senior individual contributor will be instrumental in shaping the technical direction of our platform, working across the full technology stack to solve complex, high-impact problems. The ideal candidate will be deeply hands-on, leading by example through technical expertise and judgment rather than managerial authority. You will play a crucial role in modernizing our platform layer, integrating AI-driven development practices, and fostering a culture of technical excellence. As a force multiplier, you will collaborate closely with product, design, compliance, and engineering leadership to translate ambiguous requirements into clear, actionable technical strategies. Your contributions will directly influence the scalability, performance, and security of our cross-border payments infrastructure, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the industry.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience building production software across the full stack
- Proficiency with frontend frameworks such as Vue.js, React, or equivalent
- Strong backend experience in C# /.NET; other OOP languages like Java, Kotlin, or Go are also acceptable
- Fundamental knowledge of responsive design, accessibility, web performance, and internationalization
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational database fundamentals
- Deep experience in system design and architecture, including microservices, service-oriented, or event-driven patterns
- Proven track record of leading large, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives as an individual contributor
- Experience mentoring and guiding engineers through technical reviews and design discussions
- Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code and their integration into the SDLC
- Production experience deploying on AWS, including CI/CD pipelines and native services like SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda
- Experience working within regulated industries such as payments or FX
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for aligning teams and stakeholders around technical strategies
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction for complex, high-impact projects across the platform, ensuring consistency and adherence to standards
- Architect and implement scalable, reliable, and secure solutions that support cross-border payment processes
- Act as a technical mentor and guide for engineering teams, raising the overall skill level through reviews, sponsorship, and knowledge sharing
- Participate actively in designing and deploying new features, ensuring high quality and performance in production
- Collaborate with product, design, compliance, and leadership teams to convert ambiguous goals into clear technical plans
- Drive modernization initiatives, transitioning legacy services into modern, cloud-native architectures
- Utilize AI tools in daily development workflows to enhance productivity and code quality
- Contribute to establishing and maintaining engineering standards and best practices across teams
- Support the deployment and operation of services on AWS, ensuring smooth CI/CD pipelines and optimal resource utilization
