About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to join our dynamic team. This senior individual contributor will be instrumental in driving complex, high-impact projects across the entire technology stack. The ideal candidate will set the technical direction for the team, influence architectural decisions, and ensure the delivery of reliable, scalable solutions. As a hands-on leader, you will actively participate in coding, system design, and problem-solving, while mentoring and elevating the engineering team through technical guidance and best practices. Your expertise in AI integration, modern software development, and cross-team collaboration will be vital as Xe rebuilds its platform infrastructure. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of cross-border payments technology, working in a fast-paced environment where your decisions and contributions have a direct impact on the company's success.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in building production software across the full stack
- Proficiency in frontend frameworks such as Vue.js, React, or equivalent
- Strong backend development skills, preferably in C# /.NET; experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar OOP languages is also acceptable
- Solid understanding of frontend fundamentals including responsive design, accessibility, web performance, and internationalization
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Deep expertise in system design and architecture, including microservices, service-oriented architecture, and event-driven patterns
- Proven track record in leading large, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives as an individual contributor
- Experience mentoring engineers through design review, technical guidance, and sponsorship
- Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code, and knowledge of how to adopt AI in engineering workflows
- Production experience with AWS, including deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and native services like SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda
- Experience in payments, foreign exchange, or regulated industries is highly desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to align teams and stakeholders around technical strategies
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical architecture and set the strategic direction for complex, high-impact projects across the platform
- Establish and uphold engineering standards, ensuring consistency and quality across multiple squads
- Act as a force multiplier by providing design reviews, mentorship, and technical sponsorship to elevate team capabilities
- Contribute directly to production code, especially in critical areas requiring senior-level judgment
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, compliance teams, and leadership to translate ambiguous goals into clear technical plans
- Drive modernization efforts by integrating AI tools into the SDLC and transitioning legacy systems into modern architectures
- Partner with architects and team leads to implement scalable, reliable, and secure cross-border payment solutions
- Ensure best practices in system design, security, and compliance are followed throughout development
- Stay abreast of industry trends and incorporate innovative technologies to improve platform performance and capabilities
