Frontend Software Engineer

Department: Information Technology

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Trimble Offices, Morley

Description

At Vintage.com, we’re building the most trusted platform for pre-loved items. We help people give valuable things a new life, making the experience simple, transparent and rewarding.

We bring together specialist knowledge, thoughtful technology and genuine care for our customers. By helping more items stay in circulation, we create value for people and make a positive impact at the same time.

At Vintage.com, technology is how we scale our impact. Every part of the customer journey - from sending in pre-loved items to getting paid - is powered by the systems we design, the products we build and the data we unlock. Our Technology team is driving greenfield product development, testing fresh ideas and building modern, scalable platforms that set the standard for re-commerce.

You'll join our web team, working alongside front-end engineers and our Software Engineer in Test, and reporting to the Lead Frontend Engineer. It's a team where curiosity meets craft: we blend creativity, technical excellence and a strong product mindset to create experiences that feel simple, rewarding and built to last.

Why This Role Matters

Why the role exists

We're looking for a hands-on Frontend Software Engineer who can own front-end craft and extend it end to end - from the interfaces our customers use to the Cloudflare Workers and light backend services that power them.

This is an individual contributor role with plenty of influence. You'll build with React and TypeScript, work on API routes, integrations and edge logic using Cloudflare Workers, and help make AI-first, verify-second engineering the team's default.

You'll partner with the Lead Frontend Engineer on architecture, with Product and Design on user experience, and with our Software Engineer in Test on quality. You'll set direction through the quality of your code, reviews and judgement, rather than through formal authority.

We're looking for someone who asks why, not just what. You'll be curious about our customers and commercial goals, challenge assumptions constructively and help us spot valuable opportunities before they arrive as tickets. This is a UK-based hybrid role, including time with the team in Leeds, and may include occasional travel to our European and other international locations as we grow.

  • Ship polished, accessible and high-performing customer experiences built on strong React and TypeScript foundations.
  • Deliver features end to end, including the Cloudflare Workers, APIs and integrations behind the interface.
  • Use AI tooling as a genuine development partner while checking, testing and improving every output before it ships.
  • Build quality in from the start through testable code, unit and component coverage, and close partnership with our Software Engineer in Test.
  • Raise the technical bar for front-end craft, edge architecture and full-stack judgement across the web team.
  • Turn customer and business insight into better product decisions, not just completed tickets.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Customer experience and front-end craft

  • Build and maintain customer-facing experiences. We currently use Astro and React, but prioritise selecting the right tool for each challenge over adherence to any single framework.
  • Turn design intent into polished, resilient interfaces, partnering closely with Product and Design.
  • Own responsive layouts, cross-browser compatibility and progressive enhancement across our brand portfolio.
  • Build accessibility (WCAG), Core Web Vitals, component quality and sensible front-end caching into everyday engineering decisions.

Full-stack and edge delivery

  • Deliver features end to end across our Cloudflare Workers stack—API routes, edge logic, integrations—using Wrangler, D1, KV and R2.
  • Build and maintain integrations with forms, CRM and marketing tools such as HubSpot, and headless CMS platforms such as Storyblok.
  • Make sound architectural decisions on the edge platform, leveraging Cloudflare's caching, KV and CDN to keep our infrastructure lean.
  • Consider internationalisation and localisation as our products and edge logic adapt for different markets.

AI-first, quality-first engineering

  • Use agentic AI tooling, including Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar, for scaffolding, refactoring, debugging and documentation.
  • Treat AI output as a starting point: run type-checks and tests, verify API and library claims against official documentation, and keep human judgement around any meaningful risk.
  • Write your own unit and component tests with Vitest, React Testing Library or similar, and partner with our Software Engineer in Test on end-to-end, visual regression and accessibility automation.
  • Integrate work cleanly through Git, GitHub Actions and our Jira-based Agile workflow, contributing thoughtfully to planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.

Technical leadership and continuous improvement

  • Shape front-end and edge architecture through high-quality code, constructive reviews and mentoring by example, working with the Lead Frontend Engineer on strategic decisions.
  • Improve the codebase and team workflows, staying current with the front-end and AI landscape and bringing back credible, proven ideas.
  • Write clear, structured code and documentation that both people and AI agents can understand and work with.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Substantial hands-on experience as a front-end-focused full-stack engineer, with a track record of senior-level ownership. This is often built over five or more years, but depth and judgement matter more than an exact number.
  • Strong, idiomatic React and confidence across the modern JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem.
  • A strong grasp of front-end craft, including UI and UX sensibility, responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, progressive enhancement and maintainable component architecture.
  • Confidence extending into backend development through Cloudflare Workers or an equivalent edge or serverless platform, plus Node-based API services.
  • Practical, regular use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor, with good judgement about when to trust, verify or reject their output.
  • Experience with a headless CMS such as Storyblok and third-party integrations, including forms and CRM or marketing platforms such as HubSpot.
  • A working understanding of accessibility, Core Web Vitals and caching across the browser, CDN and edge as everyday engineering concerns.
  • A habit of writing your own unit and component tests using Vitest, React Testing Library or similar, alongside effective collaboration with a dedicated quality function.
  • Confidence with Git, Agile delivery and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
  • Sound architectural judgement, clear communication and the confidence to shape technical direction without formal authority.
  • A proactive mindset: you investigate, ask why and propose better options rather than waiting for a ticket to define every next step.

Preferred

  • Experience with internationalisation or localisation in front-end or edge applications.
  • Exposure to agentic AI workflows or MCP-based tooling, such as Playwright MCP or Storyblok MCP.
  • Experience partnering with a QA or SDET function on end-to-end, visual regression or accessibility automation.
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools such as Lighthouse or similar.
  • A background in e-commerce or re-commerce platforms.

Living Our Values

In this role, living our values means:

  • Put the customer and the wider business outcome at the heart of technical decisions.
  • Take ownership, follow through and care about the quality of what reaches production.
  • Work openly with Engineering, Product, Design and Quality, sharing context and knowledge as you go.
  • Stay curious, challenge assumptions constructively and keep learning as the technology landscape changes.
  • Use sound judgement and integrity, especially when AI can move quickly but still needs thoughtful human verification.
