We are looking for an experienced and commercially focused Fruits & Vegetables Category Manager to lead the development and performance of our fresh produce category. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full category lifecycle, from sourcing and supplier management through to pricing, promotions, stock availability, and sales performance.

This role requires strong commercial awareness, excellent negotiation skills, and a good understanding of fresh produce, including seasonality, quality standards, supply chain dynamics, and customer preferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the category strategy for fruits and vegetables in line with overall business objectives.
- Manage the full product lifecycle, including sourcing, range selection, pricing, promotions, and product rationalisation.
- Identify market trends, customer preferences, and emerging opportunities within the fresh produce sector.
- Source high-quality fruits and vegetables from reliable local and international suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers, distributors, and other key partners.
- Negotiate competitive prices, payment terms, supply agreements, and promotional support.
- Monitor supplier performance, product quality, availability, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure products meet agreed quality, freshness, food safety, and regulatory standards.
- Manage seasonal buying plans and ensure appropriate stock levels throughout the year.
- Analyse sales, margins, waste, stock turnover, and other category KPIs to drive profitability.
- Develop pricing and promotional strategies that maximise sales while protecting margins.
- Work closely with Procurement, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, and Store/Warehouse teams.
- Monitor competitor pricing, product ranges, and market activity and make recommendations accordingly.
- Identify opportunities to improve category profitability, reduce waste, and optimise inventory.
- Manage product availability and minimise stock-outs and excessive wastage.
- Forecast demand and purchasing requirements based on historical performance, seasonality, and market conditions.
- Prepare regular category performance reports and present insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
- Continuously review and improve the category range to ensure it remains competitive and commercially viable.
